CAE's North Atlantic Level Airspace Operations course will help you become better acquainted with the route structures, communication tactics, procedures, and contingency plans specific to operation across the NAT HLA area.
What: The North Atlantic High Level Airspace (NAT HLA) is a large portion of the airspace of the North Atlantic region with its own set regulations. It is also considered the busiest oceanic airspace in the world.
Where: The NAT HLA is between FLs 285 and 420 inclusive.
Who: The North Atlantic airspace is controlled by six Oceanic Control Areas (OCAs) each managed by different ICAO member states:
- Reykjavik (Iceland)
- Bodø (Norway)
- Gander (Canada)
- Shanwick (U.K)
- New York (U.S.A.)
- Santa Maria (Portugal)
When: In February 2016, this designated airspace transitioned from Minimum Navigation Performance Standards (MNPS) to HLA.
Why: This transition was in response to the transition from capability-based (MNPS) to Performance-Based Navigation (PBN).
How: The North Atlantic Level Airspace course will help you become better acquainted with the route structures, communication tactics, procedures, and contingency plans specific to operation across the NAT HLA area.
